Next week, we’ll have a very special guest via Skype: Matt Mullenweg, founder of Automattic, WordPress’s company.Wordpress just celebrated its 10th anniversary. It powers 20% of all websites. It gets more traffic than Yelp or Yahoo (see the image below that Matt posted this morning on Twitter). Automattic, its parent company, has just 120-or-so employees. The culture of the company is really unique: the employees can work from wherever they want. They’re happy—a rarer thing than you’d think. It’s a big deal: The Wall Street Journal wrote about the company’s last year, and there’s a brand new book by Scott Berkun about Automattic, titled The Year Without Pants: WordPress.com and the Future of Work.
And Matt isn’t even 30 yet.
This is a great opportunity to ask questions about the media and tech world, about careers and building things just because you think they should exist in the world… and about this platform that we’re going to be using for our group blogs this semester.
