TWO EXAMS – BASED ON THE READINGS, THE LECTURES AND OTHER MATERIAL (VIDEO, AUDIO, WEBSITES) WE COVER
Terms. You will receive a preview list of about 20 short answer terms on the Friday before the exam. Five terms will be drawn from this list to appear on the exam. For each term, you must identify it in a sentence or two (“what is it?”) and give its significance in another sentence or two (“why do we care about it? what does it matter?”). Each of the five term answers is worth one point.
Essays. You will receive an 8-page blue book and a choice of two essay questions in the exam. Pick one of the essay questions and respond to it as best you can, using specific ideas, terms, and examples from the readings and lecture (and your own experience as a collaborative blogger, if you like). You will not get a preview of the essay question as you do with the terms. (However, studying well for the terms should help you formulate a rich answer to the essay.) The essay is worth 5 points.
Extra credit. Each exam may include a half-point extra-credit question based on something we discussed in lecture … just another reason to keep up your attendance.
